International Friends reaches out and cares for people in our community who are here from another country, either temporarily or permanently. We provide friendship, field trips, and language assistance, all in an effort to help make Indiana feel more like home to them. We are blessed with a rich and diverse population of International Friends for us to reach out to and care for, including those from Japan, China, Korea, Algeria, Mexico, and at least 10 other countries and from all continents!
We offer the following classes and gatherings at CLC Carmel:
- International Bible Study: Tuesdays, 9:30-10:30 am - room 100
Participants read in their home languages and discuss what we read in English to discover vocabulary, history, and philosophy.
- International Friends: Tuesdays, 10:30-11:30 am - room 100
Friendship, fun, food and field trips! Meet new friends and learn about each other and about life in Indiana and other places, practice casual English, learn to cook new dishes and to make new crafts. Celebrate traditional American holidays. Guests help answer questions about school, doctors, etc. Meetings may include costs for craft supplies, lunch, admittance to events, etc.
- English Classes: Thursdays, 9:30-11:30 am - upstairs classrooms
Leveled and skill-specific English classes. Students joining us for the first time are screened to make sure they are placed in the best class for them. Classes this year include professional conversation, American accent training, written conversation, and basic conversational English. There is also an "English for Kids" program for ages 3-5 meeting at the same time. Cost: $65 for the year.
- International Friends Family Fun: Third Saturday of the month, 2:30-4:30 pm - upstairs classrooms
We offer the space and time for our International Friends and their families to meet and to enjoy a hobby. Currently we have a photography club and a Chinese brush painting group meeting.
